ORF files of OM-System OM-1 camera supported!

Post by Tschens »

Hello,
I just realized that XnView MP can open the *.ORF files from the new OM-System OM1 Camera (former Olympus). All other programs I tested so far except FastRawViewer cannot open them. Out of curiosity, I tested an old version from Nov 2019 - even that one can open the OM-1 ORF file. How can that be? This verison of the program us much older than the campera!

Another observation:
When I doubleklick on files from the OM-1 Camera, XnViews behavior differs from file to file: Some files are opened in its internal viewer which shows the picture correctly, other files are opened with the Windows standard program which gives an error message regarding compatibility. I tried to find any difference in these ORF files, but was not able to find one. The only one is the info in the status bar: The ones that open correctly in the internal viewer show more information such as resolution. However, in the exiftool info I can find the same resolution for all those files.
Any idea whats going on there?

Problem still there in beta3:
I just realized that when I define specific colors for the Olympus ORF files, some of the OM-1 ORF files are NOT shown in the color which are set in the options. See screenshot. Exactly these files are the ones that open in the windows standard program, the ones correctly colored open directly in XNViewMP.

Update with more details: When I rebuild the thumbnails, the colors are correct. But as soon as I swith to another folder and then back, the wrong colors are back. Interestingly, exacltly those files who do not keep their colors have no "EXIF" marks at the bottom right of their thumbnails. See screenshot.

I already tried everything without success. The pictures are all part of a high speed series, therefore they should not have lots of differences in their Metadata. I had a detailed look into the Exif data with ExiftoolGUI, the only differences (exept time, file size and other minor ones) is that in the "composite" group the metatags are in different orders. See below. Furthermore, the crazy file has no "EXIF" in the bottom right area of the thumbnail es described before, and it shows less information in the status bar - see attached screenshots.

Crazy files (color of filename jumps back to original when changing to another folder and back again):

---- Composite ----
Aperture : 10.0
Blue Balance : 1.835938
Image Size : 5220x3912
Megapixels : 20.4
Red Balance : 2.28125

Modify Date : 2022:03:27 13:24:11+01:00
Extender Status : Not attached
Circle Of Confusion : 0.015 mm
Depth Of Field : 1.26 m (0.48 - 1.74 m)

Hyperfocal Distance : 1.31 m

Here are the 2 files that behave differently. Both can be viewed in Xnview MP, but in a different way.

If i browse files with 0.99.7, then 1.00, there is no EXIF icon, it's normal, the .ORF are not recognized by 0.99.7. But if i select the 2 files, and 'View>Update catalog from files', all is ok after...

When I copy these files in a new directory, everything works as it should: color, EXIF logo and opening of the files behave identical! I am currently trying to find a way to "repair" the existing folder.

Edit: I removed the effected folders, optimized the database and moved them back. Now everything is fine.
