Mac: Disable GUI animation

Post by Knocks »

Hi,

I am using the MacOS version of XnViewMp. I would like to disable the visual effect/animation of the whole screen shifting left/right when you open an image in XnViewMp from Finder, and also disable the animation when you close the file and return to Finder.

Thanks!

Welcome to the XnView forum, Knocks, and thank you for registering here. I'm not sure what you mean with "visual effect/animation" and can only guess, here. When opening an image, by default XnView performs a two pass rendering for displaying the image as fast as possible. This might be the effect that you see. Please try and disable "Two-pass rendering at loading" in Tools > Settings | View | Mics. by deactivating the appropriate check-box.

A screen video which shows your problem might help to identify the problem.

I'm surprised to see a short and clear answer even though the request isn't clear at all to me. Is this a problem specific to XnView MP on Mac?

There are two very specific animations in XnView MP on Mac. One is more subtle, it happens when you open an image. The Finder menu at the top of the screen (in my case it's blue, the color depends on system settings), moves to the left. When it disappears, is replaced by the black menu.

The second animation is a lot more pronounced and noticeable. When you close an image, the entire screen scrolls to the right until the regular Finder screen is shown again.

I find both of these animations to be a distraction, if not a nuisance. Generally, transitional animations should have an opt-out from a UX perspective. If a user doesn't want an animation, he should be able to disable them.

Thank you for your detailed description, Knocks. I haven't got a Mac that's why I asked. The various "animations" that you describe may indeed be irritating but according to Pierre, the author of XnView (xnview) there seems to be no way to get around these "animations".
