'Face tag' option disabled

Post by jamro »

The 'Face tag' option in the Tools menu is always disabled for me, no matter how I select the image. Am I doing something wrong?

Welcome to the XnView forums and thank you for your problem report, jamro. Just two days ago I experienced the same problem: "Tools > Face Tag..." is disabled (greyed out) regardless which image you select.
Answer is: For face tagging you have to download the "Face Tag" add-on and unpack it in subfolder "AddOn". Please see links below for more details

Thank you! I actually did read the XnView Wiki article, but somehow completely missed the instructions of downloading the plugin. :) Got it to work now.

The good news is that the plugin does read face tags created in the discontinued Windows Live Photo Gallery. The sad news is that not all tags are read properly (many are missing, although visible in the XMP data) and foremost - clicking on 'Search face' will replace all the original tags and names on the photo.

Hmm, sounds like some feature requests.

Face Tags: Full support for Windows Live Photo Gallery
Perhaps Pierre (xnview) can add full support for your face tags of Windows Live Photo Gallery. Could you please provide a sample file with several face tags in it (which are not displayed in XnView MP)?

Add new face regions while keeping existing ones.
Perhaps there should be a way to add/recognize new face regions while keeping existing ones. This could be achieved by seperating resetting/clearing and searching function for example:
a.) Reset/Clear all face tags.
b.) Search for (new) face tags. Only new identified areas are added while keeping existing ones.

Yes, these features would be super useful. A few sample photos can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bnoum73b4pdv ... lGeha?dl=0

On two of these '001 (22).jpg' and '001 (31).jpg' partial face tag data is visible in XMP, but the names do not appear in Face Tag plugin view.

:bugconfirmed: Thanks to your detailed description I can reproduce the problem.
Pierre.
