Ctrl-T (to tag) + right arrow (for next image)

No in the browser.

I have a wide screen, so I'm using layout 7, with the preview on the right.

As I go through the thumbnails, I'd like to do a quick tagging, then eventually apply the correct action/rate/delete to these images.

Being able to tag and move to the next image in the same key command, like Alt-1: tag + move to the next image, would speed up and make life easier on my "old hands".
