File associations error

Post by appyface »

Brand new <3 days laptop running Windows 11 22H2, current with all updates. XnView MP 1.3.1 portable.

I am logged in as a local user (Administrator), I have not yet added an internet account.

I execute program "Associate files with XnViewMP.exe" with elevated (admin) privs (also tried without), mark the boxes, OK, and get this error message:

Problem to change file association. Please try to start with admin rights.

Thank you for any help.

"Associate files with XnViewMP.exe" was for XP, you need to use the associations in windows settings

That works.

But, the XP association program is coming up automatically whenever I click on an unknown file extension. Is there a way to remove it?
