configure metadata management

Post by aurelius.hogan »

I'm new with XnView and I love it!
So now I'm planing to use it with others together und I would like to configure which fields are shown for metadata.

I've got a large number of friends, that have no skills at all about digitally managing photos and especially IPTC or XMP. But they have a lot of old photos, they would digitize and like to share.

So, I will have to teach them how to organize themself and how to use XnView MP which is very nice documented all over. THANX!!!
But I will also have to make an additional description which fields they have to fill out, so that I'm able to use the metadata correctly in the planned CMS. And these fields are scattered around over several tabs in the dialog for editing metadata.

What I am looking for, is the menu point Tools / Metadata / Edit My Preferred Metadata where I get all the fields that I need together in one tab. Just the way I'm able to configure the labels in Settings / Browser / Thumbnail / Labels, I would like to define, which fields I would like to edit in this Dialog and which of them should be required. This way experts will have the possibility to use the max and newbies will know what is important to enter and everybody has the possibility to optimize this process for their personal needs. And of course, I would like to share this dialog configuration with an ini file.

Is there already an undocumented feature that would help in this direction or should I look forward to the next release?

Yes correct.
Ant the ability to specify a "required" attribute.

Perhaps with the possibility to show all.
