No EXIF metadata in Tools-Compare...

Post by tol »

In Image Compare window, there is info section. I think it should show F-number, exposure time, ISO, EV compensation the way FastStone does, but it doesn't. It only shows ([]) () () in the place where exif metadata is expected (as I think). This is the same for all photos from various cameras and smartphones. In browser window, the exif metadata is shown correctly for the same files.

I use the following version, it seems outdated but it is the only version in AUR for Arch/Manjaro linux that I found.
XnView MP Linux
Version 0.99.7 64bits (Jan 13 2022)
Libformat version 7.100

Just downloaded recent appimage version from the official website, the problem still exists, it doesn't show exif in compare window.

XnView MP Linux
Version 1.3.1 64bits (Oct 12 2022)

Libformat version 7.126

I entered in Tools-Settings-Browser-Browser:

{Filename} {Size KB} Kib {EXIF:Date Taken [Y-m-d_H-M-S]}
F = {EXIF:F-Number}
S= {EXIF:Exposure Time}
ISO = {EXIF:ISO Value}
Focal = {EXIF:Focal Length} ({EXIF:Focal Length 35mm})

It works in Browser but not in Compare. Maybe need to enter it somewhere else, but I couldn't find any information about it.

I found what the problem was. There are 2 different sections to edit. I edited only Tools-Settings-Browser-Browser, and the one that works in Compare is in Tools-Settings-View-Info. Somehow I looked through all settings several times and never found it before. Now it works as expected.

The only thing I'm missing from FastStone image compare is that XnView resets image adjustment position when we change zoom. For example, if we zoom 2 images a lot to see one object that is positioned in different places, we use right mouse click to position the object on both images to the center. and then compare it. Now if we zoom in/out even slightly, out adjustment is reset and we have to adjust again, and it takes very long at higher zoom. Faststone keeps adjustment, so if you move the image so that the object is in the middle on both images, you can zoom in and zoom out, and the object will always remain in the middle. This helps very much to zoom a lot and see what photo has better focus and less blurring.
