Gamma Slider on Viewer Toolbar [Enhancement]

Post by JohnFredC »

The most frequent adjustment I need to make to the images I view in XnView is to change the gamma. Sometimes I need to change the gamma just to make the picture viewable. This happens so often that making the trip to the Adjust menu over and over is very inefficient.

Perhaps if we had the option to display a gamma (or other?) adjustment control or scrollbar in the viewer toolbar, or in a floating window at all times, then my use of XnView would be enhanced.

Perhaps if we could just leave the existing adjustment window "on top" and be able to change to the next image without closing it first would be a solution.

I too would like a toolbar button for the "Gamma/Contrast/Brightness" box. That, along with “Resize”, are likely the 2 most common things you’ll ever use in an image program, so I'd like a "Resize" button as well.

I'm using and staying with version 1.31 because of two things - the Resize box has the "Percentage" adjustments right alongside the height/width settings. With the "Percentage" adjustment you can adjust the height/width on large images quickly, and do the fine adjustments with the controls on the left. This I'd like to see you return to.

The other reason I don't want to use a newer version (yet), although they have some VERY nice improvements, is the fact that the "Gamma/Brightness/Contrast/Colors" box doesn't reset to zero when you close it out, (as the one in version 1.31 does). There's a setting for Gamma adjustment in the Options box now anyway. Seems to me this would create even more conflict.

I'd also like for XnView to loop when going through a folder and reaching the end.

Actually, if 1.31 had a Lanczos filter and would loop and do Panoramas and had a smoother Rotation filter, XnView is about all I'd need 95 percent of the time, and my other image programs would catch dust from non-use.

This makes me think about implementing a way of creating user-defined buttons. If you can put all menu items (i.e. all actions available in XnView) in some simple language, any user could create any button, and even menus could be described in this language, so, custom menus would be available. I think that Opera implementation is a good idea. I already wrote about this in some thread, some time ago.

I know, this isn't trivial to implement, but will be a really good improvement, a killer feature!
