Can't 'Save' and can't 'SaveAs'

Post by LittleBitofToast »

My main issue is this: both the 'Save' and 'Saveas' options do not work for me now, immediately since updating XNViewMP to the latest version and trying. they worked fine on all my prior versions.

A secondary issue, which occured at the same time, is that I also cannot delete files without it asking for administrator rights every single delete I do. which is frustrating, and never happened with prior versions. And, as I delete just 1 or a few at a time, as I work my way through the photo's I've taken and figure which are best, and which to discard, is proving frustrating.

XnView MP Windows
Version 1.3.1 64bits (Oct 11 2022)
I'm running Windows 10.
When I updated to this version of XNV MP it may have been from an older version than just the prior version (in case that makes a difference?!).

So, I cannot save any photograph, after any edits at all.

after any edits then clicking 'save' I get:
 'An error occurred during saving!'
(and indeed it has not saved any changes)

When I try 'Saveas' into a new folder  (whether leaving the photo's filename as was, or changing it)...the 'SaveAs' dialogue box does appear, showing the destination folder, but when I press save I get:
'File not found.  Check the filename and try again'.

I'm not sure what file it isn't finding (photo itself in source folder, or the whole destination folder itself, or is it even - oddly - looking for the photo file in the destination folder...which it isn't in obviously, as I'm trying to save it to there ! ) .
 - however, it will happily open this photo (the original unedited version), and any other photo, from both the source folder, and the ones already in the destination folder where I normally 'saveas' into. (and did SaveAs into with all prior releases I used ) so those haven't vanished or corrupted.

I can't edit any photo's and keep my changes now. All are just photos off my compact camera, and .JPG I think. and I don't change formats.

The delete issue is also a  problem for me - could a Windows update a couple of days prior to installing the latest XNView version have caused or contributed ? I think my prior version of XNView MP was still working but I can't be sure I definitely used it inbetween those 2 events !).

I have tried uninstalling, and reinstalling, but the same problems occur.

I have a long term illness and photo's are one simple joy I have - but I currently can't sort, edit nor share those I wish to. So I really hope you can help.

cheers :)

Hi,

I have the same problem on my Mac. Once I edit or even just open any photo I can't save, or save as, due to the 'An error occurred during saving!' error.

Running MacOS Ventura 13.7.8. Any advice would be appreciated.

It seems that you have not authorized XnView to write

Hi Pierre, thanks for reply. I've given XNView "Full Disk Access" but it has not made a difference. I've discovered its the HEIC photos that have the save error, but JPG ones save without issue.

Is there anything else I could do?
