NEF support, Viewer / Browser speed

Post by Jochen »

Some Feature Requests:

* Nikon NEF support (read)
* Possibility to exit the fullscreen-mode of the viewer with 'Esc' not only back to the normal view of the viewer, also
  - switch to the browser
  - exit XnView
Perhaps user-definable in the 'Options' window?
* Viewer speed improvement (preferrably JPEG)

BTW: Keep up the great work!

NEF support

Sorry, I haven't recognized that support for NEF is already there.
But both browser view (thumbnails) and viewer take a lot of time to show the image data....

At the moment NEF files really take far too long to open (up to 1 minute). From what I have heard, Nikon provides a viewer that displays the files fast. Nikon nows the exact format and algorithms to read it, not sure whether performance can be improved in XnView, too.

Please try switching on the cache, this will increase browser speed when viewing folders for a second time (Options, Category "Browser -> Cache").
Perhaps the cache should be enabled by default...

Thanks helmut for replying...

Yes, I did that already. But this helps only if I view the files a second time (rarely used), as you said ... not for the first time. :?

There should be really a better NEF support which reads NEF files fast. At the moment it is not very usable.
