B3: Folder tree: Strange open/close behaviour

Post by helmut »

In XnView 1.80 and all 1.82 betas, I experience some strange behaviour in folder tree:

You have a small diretory structure:
A
+ Sub A

In folder tree of XnView browser:
1. Double-click on Folder "A" to open it
2. Double-click on Folder "Sub A" to open it
3. Click on folder name of Folder "A"
4. Then click on "-" to close folder "A"
-> Folder "A" closes, but after a short instant it opens, again. :bug:

Step 3 & 4 have to be performed quickly after each other.

This problem is surely related with the delayed opening of folders. The delayed opening is good, but should be applied when navigating with the keyboard, only. For selection with mouse, the folder should open immediately.

Ok, it's a problem with 'single click to expand', but it's normal. Folder is opened after a little delay.

I hope these normal problems don't get more and more.

But it's a problem, it's the result of 'single click'

I think that current behaviuor may be confusing, because 'Single click to collapse' and 'Auto-expand' may behave unexpectedly in some directory layouts (like helmut noted). Nonetheless, this behaviour is logical.
The sigle click on parent folder first collapses branch (auto collapse) then expands it (single click open). If the order were reversed, the behaviour would be unexpected as well: you would get collapsed branch, however 'Single click to open' active should not allow closed branch after single click on it.

I do not see a really good solution except for some elaborate, context sensitive workaround. And I think it isn't needed.

Close for now?

X.
