problems by handling the descript.ion file during single or batch rename of picture files

Post by OTRAG »

Hi XnView Team,

Unfortunaly there are further problems by handling the descript.ion file during single rename or batch rename of picture files.
Due to the complexity, I describe the errors by screenshots. I hope this will be helpy.

Starting point for both scenarios:
1-Starting point.png

Error by single renme action:
2-rename dialog.png
3-result single rename.png

Result: Both files are renamed according the file list settings, but error in the descript.ion file

Error by batch rename action:
4-batch rename.png
5-result batch rename.png
Result:Both files are renamed according the file list settings, but error in the descript.ion file, here with a temporary entry

Here my file list settings:
6-fle list settings.png

My SW Setup: Win 11 22H2 / XnView MP 1.5.4

I hope I have described the error well enough

Hi Pierre,
I just installed version 1.6.1 of XnView MP and tested the bug fix. Here is the result:

Single Rename action: Same misbehavior as before.

Batch Rename action: Now shows the same error pattern as Single Rename

Changes to my system in the meantime:
Ongoing Win 11 updates.
Cleaning out my Companion File List (see attachment)

i can only reproduce if .JPG is used in descript.ion and not .jpg. But why do you have .JPG?

Hi Pierre,

the .ARW and .JPG files come directly from my Sony A6600.
Normally I rename the raw files via batch rename immediately after import (as well as the .JPG as companian file).

Example:
DSC01312.RAW as well as DSC01312.JPG rename to 2023-10-22_144020.RAW as well as 2023-10-22_144020.jpg
The case of the file extensions is the result of the renaming.

But I often get error messages from Batch Rename (see also my sparate, still open error message), so I rename manually. Here .JPG remains as result and is consequently taken over later into the Descipt.ion file.

I have tested renaming .jpg and .JPG files. The error in the Descript.ion file occurs only with .JPG files.

So far so good. But why is there a differentiation between jpg and JPG in Xnview MP?
