Manipulate categories on an open image

If you double click on an image to open the image it opens in a separate tab from the browser. You can then click through the other images in the browser window using the arrow keys on the tab n the opened image. This does not update the image selected in the browser window and you also do not have access to the category pane when in the opened image tab.

If you click through the images using the arrow keys and want to categorize the images this is quite inconvenient - you go back to the browser and then have to hunt for the image that you are currently viewing in order to tag categories. Would it be possible to have access to the category pane for the opened image so that categories could be selected directly?
