Missing feature: Up & Down key to flip through frames

MP is missing a feature.
In Classic you could use your keyboard's Up and Down keys to flip through the frames of a picture:

This is awesome, you can use Right/Left to scroll through a list of images and then Up/Down if you want to flip through the frames.

It's sorely missing in XnView MP:

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.8.1. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.

There is a problem with 1.8.1 package

This seems to have broken the "automatic" behavior, I can no longer navigate to the previous or next image in fullscreen using keyboard arrows.
However scrolling when zoomed still works.

Setting in Interface > Keyboard : "Left/Right" and "Up/down" set to "Automatic".
