XMP Files when Rating Images

I have downloaded XnView MP on the recommendation of Duade Paton who recommends the program as part of his workflow (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySfdimw6iHc).

When I rate an Image, I do not see the XMP file that is supposed t9o be generated in the same directory as the RAW image (Canon CR3 images). Is this a setting that I need to enable or am I missing something?

Any help is appreciated.

1. check 'Create or update XMP Sidecar' (Settings > Metadata > Sidecar)
2. check which metadata you want to record in Settings > Metadata
