Save As read-only file

Post by mtcz »

Hello,
is there any options to change behavior with read-only files?
When I open RO file, make some changes and then Save As, the new file is also read-only. And it's not possible to save it again.
I can't find any option regarding this in program settings.
Can anyone help me with that please?
Thanks.

An example format, and which operating system, maybe Linux?

I may not be able to help beyond trying to clarify the problem, though...

Ok, sorry.
It's Windows 10 PRO and also Windows 11 PRO.
XnView MP 1.7.2 64-bit
JPG files. I didn't test another format because I need it with jpeg.

Looks like a Windows 11 problem rather than an XnView MP issue, I as far as possible stay in Linux, and I'm not aware of any XnView MP settings if there are any that could possibly be relevant.

You might try an online search for something like 'windows 11 read only file system', and if you don't find the solution monitor this thread in the hope that someone can help.

It's same in windows 10.
I don't thik it's windows problem. If the original file is not RO, then the Save As is also not RO.
If the original file is RO, then Save As is also RO.

If I try it in MS Paint, the new file created by "Save As" is always NOT RO.
The same behavior I'm expecting in all other programs. There's IMHO no reason to hold RO attribute on "Save As" copy.
Why would someone need this?
