Drag and drop to folders pane causes freeze Linux Fedora 41
XnView: MP 1.8.3 64-bit (Linux) - Libformat 7.196
OS: Linux Fedora 41 64bit
As per subject
Effect: Freeze. Program is unresponsive. Reopening shows that the file has been copied, it's doing what it should but then waiting for something that never happens.
To reproduce:
1. Open XNViewMP
2. Drag an image file from the main window to the folder pane and drop

Re: Drag and drop to folders pane causes freeze Linux Fedora 41
Yes it didn't do it when I was in Mint, or even when I put KDE on Mint. I'm using the flatpak version, as there doesn't seem to be an rpm or other way to get a system install, I used the deb file before.
It's also doing odd things when I try and open a file on a mounted non-system drive. I think this is because it's flatpak though, and it crashes when I do it in system drives also so I don't think is related. I've checked the appimage version and it crashes for that too, but non-system drives work ok.

Any solution to this? I've been using the windows version in a bottle but that's decided to be unstable now too, understandably.
The message before the freeze is
It's inconsistent, sometimes it will do it no problem. It is copying a file to a different folder, whether that's via the folders pane or within the thumbnail pane. It's the same with the flatpak or appimage version. There isn't an rpm version or in the dnf repos that I can see.

Do you have tried the tgz package?Kenny Dave wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 9:21 pm Any solution to this? I've been using the windows version in a bottle but that's decided to be unstable now too, understandably.

The TGZ package natively crashes the same. Or do you mean in the bottle?

i've tried on a clean install of fedora 41, and no problem. Do you use a X11 or wayland session?

Re: Drag and drop to folders pane causes freeze Linux Fedora 41
Same freezing problem with XNViewMP as a Flatpak using Fedora 41 Wayland with KDE interface. So far I have only tried to drag a file via thumbnail view to another folder in the left side folder tree. When XNView MP is reopened, the file shows in the new folder. So the file gets moved but XNView MP freezes and needs to be terminated, waiting does nothing.
Also I tried the downloaded AppImage and cannot get it to run. Nothing happens.
New to Linux and I have tweaked some of the OS settings vs using all defaults (I hate bloatware and installed unneeded files, so I play to learn to get rid of garbage such as language files I'll never use, unused bloated fonts, 3D crap and so on), so I admit that the problem could be on my system, but why oh why cannot programs offer users exactly what to install or not vs. myriad useless defaults? So I thought I'd add my XNViewMP freezing experience, as I looked for this in the forum and joined.
FWIW, XNView Classic would be my preferred program as I only need a fast viewer for culling and rating/flagging images as I use another program as a database manager. The other Linux offerings for fast simple small no database programs for FAST culling and rating of images don't really exist or the GUI is too Gnome / MacOS like to be usable. I would pay for such a fast small image culling and rating Linux program.

Wayland. It's KDE not Gnome. XNViewMP was fine when I put KDE on Mint, as far as I can remember.xnview wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 5:03 pm i've tried on a clean install of fedora 41, and no problem. Do you use a X11 or wayland session?
Thanks for looking at it. It sounds like E4474 is KDE also if he's not keen on Gnome.

i can reproduce, i'll check, perhaps a problem with latest KDE & Qt 5.15Kenny Dave wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 7:02 pm Wayland. It's KDE not Gnome. XNViewMP was fine when I put KDE on Mint, as far as I can remember.

Re: Drag and drop to folders pane causes freeze Linux Fedora 41
Is there any news on this? Is it a problem with QT 5.15? Perhaps I can ask the relevant people to have a look if I know more about it.
I'm running XNViewMP in a VM at the moment which isn't ideal.
