XnviewMP 1.8.6 on Windows 10
Hello,
I don't know if it is a bug of XnviewMP or an intrinsic limitation of the jxl format, but consider a jxl file without geolocation and you wish add one using metatada/edit GPS location. There are 2 cases
1) the jxl has been generated though lossless transcoding from a non-geolocated jpg file using cjxl. No issue to write the coordinates lat and lon on the jxl file using XnviewMP, but afterwards it is not possible to remove them (the 'clean' entry in the metadata tab is greyed)
2) the jxl has been generated directly using XnviewMP from any non-geolocated file (e.g. a tiff file). In this case, the metadata/edit GPS location seems to be functional (you can click on the the write button, and no error message is displayed), but nothing is written. By contrast, if the jxl file is generated from a geolocated tiff file (with "preserve metadata" on), the geolocation is preserved in the jxl file (but no means to erase it: the 'clean' entry is greyed)
thanks
simon
PS. BTW, note that the term "GPS location" is a bit too restrictive. GNSS would be better than GPS but is still too restrictive, as lat and lon coordinates could be acquired using other means, e.g. a map. Geolocation (or Lon/Lat) seems to be more generic
