XnView MP and shell links

Post by PCO »

Hi

I tried searching the forum, but I didn't find any posts that answered my question (I apologize if there's already an answer!) which, at least apparently, is simple: how do I prevent XnVMP from following shell links?

(because of this property of XnVMP, I almost deleted images thinking they were duplicates!)

Thanks

Following shortcuts is standard file manager behavior, and it's rather odd to expect otherwise.
Also .lnk's thumbnails are clearly marked with shortcut overlay icon.

On the other hand, Browser's Custom filter (Settings>Filelist) allows to exclude lnk.
However, it only works with lnk to files and ignores lnk to folders.

Yes, it is normal behavior in file management!... but it isn't, necessarily, a standard behavior in media file management programs!

I don't see it in the dashboard thumbnails!... See the image!

No! See the image I put!

NOTE: This example, shown in the image, was intentionally created to demonstrate the problem I mentioned in my first post!

XnVMP 1.8.8

The simulation you present is biased concerning the problem I pose, for the following reasons:

—Starting from a root folder, which contains a tree of subfolders with the images/photos—
1) I don't have links to files, and your simulation does!
2) I have, at most, one or two links to some subfolders of the tree (these links derive from the need for a cross-organization, when I navigate through a "File Manager" — in the strict sense of it)!
3) I have XnVMP configured so that the folders are not visible (I'm not interested in seeing the folders, but their contents!) in the panel in browser mode:
I use "Show files in subfolders" mode and I do the desired sorting.

4) to verify what I explained in the 1st post, remove the link file to file "1", keep file "1" in folder "a" and keep the link to folder "a" in the root folder; also keeps the file "2" in the root folder.
5) puts the panel view in "Show files in subfolders" mode!

...and then, tell me something!

quite important setting to mention

right, there is no 'do not flatten links' setting when flattening tree via 'Show files in subfolder'
you may request it in Suggestion section

related
1.8.4 - filelist - shortcut - cannot load file shown in subfolder
