Thumbnail Preview before JPG-Import from e.g. SD-Card

Dear forum.
Maybe I'm too stupid, but I can't find the settings where I have a preview before importing images (e.g. from the SD card) so that I can only select the images that I want to import. Despite an intensive search on the net, I could not find a solution. Perhaps it is so trivial that it has never been asked, perhaps this (in my opinion important) function has not (yet) been programmed.
Why am I looking for a solution: I often have different themes in one day (3D photography, normal photography, nature, architecture, ...), so that I want to differentiate between the groups before importing and then import the images into suitable folders. I switched from a similar viewer program, where the preview was automatically predefined. But I am more convinced by XNview MP vers. 1.8.8 is more convincing overall.
