Unable to create new categories

Post by Tim? »

Hey All,

I'm no longer able to create new categories. I previously was able to right-click on an existing category and select New. Now when I right-click on any category, no context menu appears, so I'm no longer able to add a new (or remove) categories.

I didn't make any config changes between then and now, so what is causing the menu to be hidden? And how do I bring it back?

I'm using version 1.9.2 (MacOS).

I've been trying in the Catalog Filter and Categories panels. Neither shows the context menu when right-clicking. There's nothing under Categories Management either, other than removing unused / all categories.

I don't have a context menu under either panel. I do see a context menu when I right-click in the Folders and Info panels (and on an actual image).

I cleared all my categories to see if that made a difference. Now I have a Catagories panel that is completely empty, right-clicking anywhere does nothing.

Very strange, could you try to rename your xnview.ini?

Renaming the ini basically starts me from the beginning as if I'm installing the app for the first time (asking for update frequency, language, etc.), but the context menus are now appearing to add new categories.

One thing I notice in the two ini files is the following line:

In my original ini where categories aren't working, categoryStatus="1,1,0,0,1,1"
With the new ini file, this line reads categoryStatus="1,1,0,1,0,1"

Any idea what each value relates to and why the fourth/fifth values are opposites (maybe related?)

Just for the heck of it, I swapped the ini files back to my original and also swapped the values as shown above. In both cases, I now have the context menus to add new categories using my original ini file.

So still not exactly sure what "broke", but creating the new ini seemed to fix the issue. Any idea why?

It's the status of expanded group

The message board doesn't allow .ini or .txt files, and it's almost 700 lines, so I didn't want to paste it directly. Looking for any specific location in the file?
