Dear Members and Developers,
as I am new to this forum, first of all I want to say a big thanks to the developers who created an immensely helpful software and to everyone contributing to its evolution!!
Unfortunately with the latest update (1.8.? --> 1.9.2) I experience some strange behaviour:
Subject: 1.9.2 - extended selection when selecting images
XnView: MP 1.9.2 /64 bit
OS: Windows 11 / 64bit
Occassionally, when I do bulk renaming of files, the selection extends somewhat erratically to pictures above the ones selected.
Effect: Extended selection of images when renaming files, so more pictures than desired are being renamed. I could not reliably reproduce the problem though, but it continues to happen occasionally. Usually, when I select a group of 5 coherent pictures or so, 6 or more pictures that are above those in the gallery are selected as well. It seems as if the additional selection is larger with a larger group of actually selected pictures.
To reproduce:
1. Select a group of pictures from the thumbnails in a gallery.
2. Press F2 to open the rename file dialogue.
Actual behaviour (bug): More pictures than those originally selected have been selected now. The additional selection is not a group of pictures that had been selected before.
Expected behaviour: Only those pictures originally selected are marked.
I hope this describes the problem. If not, please do not hesitate to ask. I will be glad to be of further help.
To those who noticed: I made the same post yesterday and deleted it again, as I was not 100 percent sure whether it might infact have been a hardware (or user) problem. But the problem is still there and does not exhibit a pattern that would be consistent with a user error.
Thanks!

Thank you very much for the quick reply.
I did a clean install (uninstall and install) and re-imported settings. Problem is still there.

The images show to have been selected for renaming, but I did not select them. As the selection was not visible (only few images are displayed on my monitor) I did not notice before batch renaming. The batch renaming dialogue looks like that

Edit: I got another one: https://ibb.co/Kp51zrxG
I marked the last 4 images to be renamed by "Aussicht_Tiflis". The images I edited before those were the three before (which got named "Landschaft_Berge_Wolken"). But even more than those are selected now - I cannot think of a mistake I could have done to select not only the pictures I edited last, but even some more (which are not even visible in the browser (as you can see from the batch rename dialogue and the browser window).
Edit2: Sorry for the edits. I was just able to see for the first time the bug while it occured. I edited a picture (pic1, not batch), then selected the next two (pic 2+3) by mouse click pic2 --> SHIFT mouse click pic3. With the second click the selection was pic1-3 and even the picture before pic1. I saw the picture before pic1 being included eventhough it was not touched in any form.
Kindest regards
Alex

Re: 1.9.2 - extended selection when selecting images
Dear Pierre,
I already posted screenshots (in particular the last one shows it perfectly)?! However, I don't know what is to be seen there - a selection of images. Some of them had not been selected before by me, but this cannot be seen from an image. As mentioned before, usually pictures are affected that are not in the range of images that are displayed on the monitor - so nothing to see there either. In working approx. 5-10 hrs I could acutally only observe it once (though it might have been visible on more occassions). But I have not a screencast of that and I cannot reliably reproduce the problem.
Sorry to be of no further help. Next time I have a workload with XnView, I will try to record it - but this will not be within the next few months now.
Kindest regards
