2.52.2 Replacement characters instead of spaces in file size

I have "Use always bytes for size" selected. Instead of spaces, triplets in filesize are separated by �, which looks pretty ugly. See the image.
OS is Windows 10. I tried removing xnview.ini. It didn't help.
