Hi,
I have a couple of small usability improvement requests for the folder tree:
1. The Move shortcut (Alt+M) does not work when a folder is selected.
2. It’s not possible to select multiple folders and perform actions on them (e.g. delete or move).
Thank you in advance,
Vincenzo

Re: Folder tree improvements
multi-selection is intentionally not supported in the navigation tree, since it represents a single active contextvenik wrote: Mon Jan 19, 2026 1:04 am 2. It’s not possible to select multiple folders and perform actions on them (e.g. delete or move) always from the folder tree:.![]()

Many users have photo organization in folders as their main use case for XnView. Most of the time, photos imported with a pattern like yyyy-MM-dd for the same event (for example, a summer holiday) need to be moved into a single folder. This becomes quite difficult in XnView without multi-selection in the folder tree.
Almost all photo organizers provide this feature, and users typically expect the folder tree to act as a navigation tool for folders, not only as a representation of the single active context. From a user’s point of view, being able to select multiple folders would also be expected to show all the images contained in the selected folders, which would greatly improve the workflow for organizing large collections.
For these reasons, adding multi-selection support in the navigation tree would strongly enhance usability for many users and align XnView with common behavior in other photo management tools.

Hi,
Diffractor and I don’t remember if digiKam as well.
Anyway, my intention was to describe a typical use case and how this feature could improve usability,
not to make a direct comparison with other software.
I really love XnView MP.

And to be crystal clear, a simple multi-select with “move/copy to folder” would be enough and a quick win..venik wrote: Wed Jan 21, 2026 8:55 pmHi,

Perhaps you already know this, but to be clear for the benefit of others who might read the thread:venik wrote: Wed Jan 21, 2026 8:59 pm And to be crystal clear, a simple multi-select with “move/copy to folder” would be enough and a quick win..
It is possible to multi-select folders to perform actions on them, just in the browser and not the folder tree.
Just set the Browser filter to Images+Folders, and then you can Ctrl-Click or Shift-Click on folders to multi-select them, and then do whatever is needed via the right-click menu or otherwise. Of course this is only possible on folders that can be seen in a single view because they are all children of a common parent.
