Histogram in thumbnail view not working

When in thumbnail view select any file and it shows exposure info but histogram not showing.

Do you have the preview pane enabled and visible? Your screenshot only shows a portion of the window so I can’t tell.

There’s an issue in the current version where the histogram won’t work if it’s not. This will be addressed in a future release.

If only you'd tried 1.9.10, which has been out for a week...

And if only you had the preview pane enabled, as I said previously. The bug was when the preview pane was enabled but not visible (as in a background tab). The preview pane must be enabled for the histo to work; this has been true for years. It no longer needs to be visible, if you're on the current version.

Because you don't have the preview pane enabled.

It might be greyed out because you have set it to show in tabs. Check the "Info Panels" menu, which is right below the menu you're showing in your screenshot.

On the Info Panels menu: ensure "Preview as tab" is UNchecked, and that "Preview" (at the top) is UNchecked. When that is done, Preview in the "Panels" menu should no longer be greyed out, and you can enable it.

There is sometimes some weirdness with enabling Preview in the Panels menu, where you have to do it twice for it to actually become visible.

Once it is visible, you can move it around, or turn it into a tab and put it in the background (so it is enabled but not visible) and the histogram will work.

Yeah I looked back at what I said and I could have been more clear; more than one interpretation was possible. I just said "if it's not" in context, and I meant "if it's not visible."

It has always been true that the Preview must be enabled for Histogram to work (that's mentioned elsewhere on the forums); the app doesn't read full raster data otherwise, and so doesn't have the necessary data to build the histogram. (It could be approximated from the preview, but Pierre chooses not to do that.)

The bug (that has been corrected since your original post) was that if the Preview was enabled but not visible, (as in: in a tab hidden behind another tab) then the Histogram was still not displayed.

Another hidden gotcha is that if you enable the Preview, the Histogram will start to work, and then if you close the Preview (really close it, not just hide it) it looks like the Histogram continues to work. But this is a trick... If you pay attention, you'll see that under such a circumstance, the Histogram shows data, but never updates; it continues to show data from the image that was last displayed in the preview. So it's then always wrong, which is worse than showing nothing at all.

So if you don't want to see the Preview or have it take up space, just dock it into a tab and put it behind some other tab, and then you'll never see it, but the histo will continue to work properly.
