XnView displaying EXRs as Empty Black Images

I'm rendering EXRs from blender as an image sequence - these images are not black and empty as I can convert them from an image sequence to MP4 inside blender and they come out perfect, but using XnView MP to attempt to view single EXRs all my frames are displayed as completely black.


First time user, just downloaded this software today as it was the first recommendation on reddit for a free EXR Viewer, have also seen that I could be missing a plugin but again could not find any actual plugin to install.

I attempted to use XnView Classic to see if that would help but get hit with the error message:

"Format of file could not be determined For displaying less common formats, the following option is available: Options>General>[x]Display all images file types"

^This error message persists on XnView Classic even with this option changed over.

actually Blender has MatCap images (to simulate lighting and material appearance in ..datafiles\studiolights\matcap folder),
which are displayed as black in XnViewMP:
