No thumbnails after restoring

Post by twobraids »

I had a catastrophic SSD failure on my Mac. Apple fixed it. I had everything properly backed up via TimeMachine. After restoration, XnView no longer shows any thumbnails. I can't figure out how to force XnView to regenerate them.

A friend suggested uninstall and reinstall. That didn't change a thing.

There's some key piece of information I'm missing.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get XnView back up and running properly?

Welcome to the forums!

What is it actually showing in the browser, if not thumbnails? Maybe post a screenshot if you are still having problems.

Check in Settings:Catalog to see if you have enabled thumbnail caching.

You can force the rebuild of thumbnails on that same screen by selecting one or more of the directories in the directory list and clicking the "Rebuild Thumbnails" button.

This problem is solved, but I don't understand why.

The browser window was just an empty white block, no listings, no icons, no thumbnails. When faced with the blank white browser no matter where I went in my directory tree, I despaired.

I just accidentally hit the button/drop-down in bottom right for thumbnails/icons/list/details, the white disappeared and a directory listing appeared. More clicks, and the icons started generating.

Let's tag this one as user error.

Thank you for responding to my post.
