Make parts of an image unreadable?

How can I make parts of an image unreadable in XnView MP, for example by pixelating them or in some other way?

There are multiple ways. Have you ever looked at the Effect menu?

Select a portion of your image, on the menu choose Effect->Effect and then choose something from the Effect list.

Crystallize with a shape setting of Square will do a pixelation effect. You can experiment.

This is a graphical application. It has a menu bar at the top. You must be aware of menus and able to use them to use an application like this.

When you open an image in XnViewMP, please look at the menu bar, and you will find the Effect Menu.
