How to Install or Upgrade ExifTool

Post by Exoner »

Hi,

I'm on Linux LMDE7 and run the Debian-version of XnviewMP 1.10.5 64bit. The Exiftool used by XMP is 12.67, the Exiftool of the system is 13.25.

I tried to follow this thread to set a custom path to the Linux-version of Exiftool, but there is no such entry to set this path like described in this thread.

How can I make use of the Exiftool-version of the Linux-system?

Peace

(Your question has been moved to the support board...)

I don't use the Linux version, so maybe someone who uses the Linux version will reply.

The option in settings to point to a specific installation of exiftool does not exist in the Linux version. You can try to use option 1 from the guide, and replace the exiftool executable that came with the app.

The guide is written for Windows, but hopefully you can learn from it to work though what you need to do. There are many different ways to install XnViewMP on Linux and multiple distributions, so there is some variability you will have to deal with.

It does seem that the Linux build is bundled with an old version of Exiftool. Pierre will have to attend to that. On Windows it is bundled with v13.5 which is recent.
