Subject: 1.11.2: XnView MP does not read xmp files modified by Lightroom

Post by PhotoDyaz »

XnView: MP 1.11.2 - 64-bit
OS: Windows 10 - 64-bit

XnView MP does not read data from xmp files modified by Lightroom, including GPS data.

Effect: Data in xmp files is not read.

To reproduce:
1. Select a NEF file that has an XMP file edited by Lightroom, for example keywords, GPS data, and stars.
2. The data is not visible in XnView MP.
3. Modify from XnView MP Metadata->Rating and enter any star values.
4. Refresh with F5.
5. Now the data as keywords is visible, but the GPS data is still being taken from the nef file instead of the xmp file.
6. Data modified by XnView is read by Lightroom.
7. If the data is modified again in Lightroom, it is not displayed again and we return to point 1.

Actual behaviour (bug): XnView does not read XMP files edited by Lightroom :bug:

Expected behaviour: Compatibility between Lightroom and XnView xmp files.

Photodyaz, please check the following:

1. Do you have Settings:Metadata:"Update catalog when file is modified outside" enabled? Do you have everything under Import enabled on that same page?

2. If you browse into the folder with the modified sidecar (xmp) file AFTER the file was modified (browse to a different folder then browse back if necessary) does that affect if the updated metadata is read?

3. Select the modified files, then do Metadata->"Update catalog from files+options", and select master/sidecar & use modified files only, then click update. If the file name is then NOT listed in the log, that would indicate the modification is not detected (no new modification since the previous metadata update in XnViewMP). Check the filesystem modification date of the sidecar file and confirm the updated contents.

Check the new features guide to ensure you know how the functionality works for metadata changes:

Hello,
1. Yes I have Settings:Metadata:"Update catalog when file is modified outside" enabled.
2. If I copy the files in a new folder and browse into de new one and refresh and is the same.
3. The data is there. The problem is that the data isn't read until the XMP files are modified by XnView. This also happens with the catalog disabled.
Please tell me how to send you an xmp file.

What about the second part of #1?
Do you have everything under Import enabled on that same page?
What about #3, the modification date on the sidecar file? I mean after the LR changes, but BEFORE you try any modifications in XnViewMP.
