Hello,
I am new in the Linux world..., and not familiar with words and acronyms associated to.
I installed XNViewMP, and when I open it, the system works for a while, and then nothing...
I have Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon 6.4.8.
"Noyau Linux" is 6.17.0-29 generic
Thanks for your help.

Re: XNView does not open
Thank you, but which of the available Linux download options have you installed, in case that is relevant?
I'm afraid I am unlikely to be able to provide technical help, though, but I have been using the DEB install successfully on Mint Cinnamon.

@sierra05: I have now deleted your original post under XnView Classic.
Regarding the XnView MP on Linux Mint issue that you reported, any more detail that you can provide would likely assist anyone who may be able to help.
Some very basic questions:
Did you download the DEB version directly from a link on the xnview website?
Do you have recent Mint system updates installed?
When Mint stops working, do other apps still run normally?
If everything freezes, could Mint possibly be using too much memory, likely because of the size of the files you have opened: you could check that using Mint's System Monitor, centre tab.

Re: XNView does not open
For security reasons, Linux software is always best downloaded from either the developer's website or from a Linux Mint source such as Mint's Software Manager.
It is also very important, remembering that security software is generally not used in apps such as Linux Mint, and it is said that its use could actually decrease security by introducing possible new attack vectors, to keep your install up to date. The availability of Mint updates is indicated by a red dot on the white shield icon on the taskbar at the right of the bottom-right of the screen, and updates of one type or another are available frequently.

Re: XNView does not open
And now, I guess the path forward is to de-install XnView and re-install from the XnView website ?

Re: XNView does not open
That would be ideal if you can do it easily, otherwise questions arise as to where you downloaded from, and if you still have the ISO file, whether the checksum is correct proving that it is valid, so a clean install may be easier...sierra05 wrote: Mon May 25, 2026 7:19 pm And now, I guess the path forward is to de-install XnView and re-install from the XnView website?

Thanks a lot. I did it : de-install the first one, and re-install from the website you recommended. And it works perfectly well. I am really happy to retrieve a software very similar to FastStone Image Viewer which I did like a lot. Thanks again for your help.

And if you need support on Mint, register on the Mint forum if you haven't already done so, although very often a quick online search is sufficient for the help I need.
