EDIT: Ante-scriptum: But see user0's much better suggestion below.
First of two resulting from this question:
The Catalog Filter now has a display preferences menu (cog wheel) where the user can choose to show or hide its various nodes.
However, the "Special Items" node is not listed there.
There may be some "under-the-hood" reason for that, but, if there is not, it would be great to add "Special Items" to that list, so that users can show it or hide it, like the others, according to their needs.
As always, thanks for your consideration!

I think it would be better to remove it completely
Browser - Catalog filter - rework Special items

Yes, that would be even better, and I've never really thought about it in those terms. But now that I am, it's true that everything in the Special Items could be paired with like things (e.g., No rating to the Rating node, Uncategorized in Categories...) or just given its own node. Indeed, I too think that having some number of additional but clearly-defined nodes, even if tiny, is better than one "catch-all" node with unrelated items in it--with of course the ability to show or hide any or all of those new nodes according to the users needs.
Yes!
