Lossless-Cropping of an altered image

Post by meteorquake »

If you change the picture dimensions in any way, such as rotating, cropping, it still allows you to do a lossless crop, which makes a permanent mess of the file typically requiring restoring from a backup. This can happen under certain circumstances due to user negligence, especially during repetitious but slightly varying tasks.

Suggestion: After a dimensional change, a lossless crop should be disabled or blocked for the picture until it is reloaded (or undone back to start, or a new picture loaded). (I suspect if the lossless "block" is done by recording the undo counter for the image, undoing back to a dimensionally unchanged state could also be handled as an extra, although that is somewhat niche, I think simple is sufficient.)

NB it shouldn't block a lossless rotation, as that won't wreck the underlying image. I often test rotate in XNView my plant pictures, and if I like it perform the appropriate lossless version without any reloading.

it is not required, as Save popup is already in place
it appears when you try to perform lossless operation on an unsaved image

however there is a bug - lossless crop does not work correctly after Save Yes/No

I've just tried that now. So, that gives a popup for all lossless crops, which I don't want, since I do a lot of lossless cropping.
The topic raised regards lossless crops when the image has been altered, which is an unexpected mistaken action that wrecks the underlying image and isn't apparent given what's on display...
