Replacing characters

Post by Peter Lustig »

Hello,

I use XnConvert V 1.112.0 on Windows x64.

I am looking for a way to replace individual characters, not a rename function.

For example, I would like to replace spaces with hyphens.

Source: first name-#. The result should be: first-name-1

I did not find a solution.

Do you have any ideas?

Best regards,
Steffen

Maybe using XnView MP's file browser option Tools > Batch rename... ?

Well, this is another tool.

My AI said, in earlier versions of XnView, the option to replace characters was available, but in newer versions, this option was removed.

Kind Regards,

Here is a link to earlier xnview software versions.

If you can find an earlier version with the option you need, you can then perhaps use that to more clearly describe the option you need, which in general is more likely to have been moved than deleted.

Stop listening to "your AI" because it doesn't know what it's talking about. Literally.

You say you want "a way to replace individual characters, not a rename function."

Replace them where? In the filename? Because that IS a rename function.

Replacing individual characters is possible in XnViewMP using the menu option Tools->Batch Rename as cday pointed out. Here's how to do it:

In that dialog, the only box you want checked is "Replace".
Then in the Replace field, type a space.
Then in the With field, type a -
When you do, the preview will show what will happen.
Click OK. It's easy.

If you're talking about replacing a single character somewhere other than in the filename, please be specific as to exactly where you want to make the changes.
