Bug?: lens correction while viewing RAW (DNG) images

I don't see this issue as urgent as the others I reported (and I am not 100% sure that it is a bug) so I put it to general discussion and Pierre can move it to bug section if he feels so.


There is inconsistency of applying lens correction when rendering RAW image data in DNG files. It seems to affect images from only certain camera models (e.g. Panasonic Lumix LX-7 which has been since corrected to DNG with Adobe DNG tools).

Way to reproduce:
- use adobe DNG converter to make files from RAWs of 2 cameras, CR2 from Canon and RW2 from Panasonic. From each make 2 versions, DNG 1.4 lossless (camera raw 7.1) and DNG 1.7 lossy. Enable settings - formats - read - camera RAW - View: full size. Then first view DNG 1.4 version and then DNG 1.7 version

Expected result:
- both look same

Observed result:
- DNG 1.4 does not have lens correction applied and DNG 1.7 version does have lens correction applied.


Ps. colors of both render differently but lens correction inconsistency is kind of more annoying as other version has stuff in corners visible which other version does not.

I am not sure if lens correction is supposed to be applied while viewing in this mode or not supposed but at least the behaviour should be consistent and similar when viewing any version.

Maybe lens correction for RW2 is saved differently than for CR2 and program knows only for subset of DNGs where to load the lens correction from.

for reference AFAIK the embedded previews typically have lens correction applied already.
