GPS location, map, and update

Post by LaurentG »

First suggestion : Rather than display GPS position in Google Maps, it would be great to be able to display it in OpenStreetMap Mapnik and/or in OpenTopoMap.

Second suggestion/question : To update a GPS position, we can modify the numeric coordinates.
But beside the field there is a "map" icon that opens a map with a mark at the position.
Since on the top of this map screen, there are both a left arrow to go back to the update screen, and also a check mark to commit the change, I suppose there should be a way to change the position directly inside the map itself. But I haven't found how to do it.
Does it mean that this is a "future" feature not yet available (but that might explain that the check mark is already here, "for future use"), or if it is already available, please explain how to do this.

Third suggestion : in the metadata update screen, it's possible to update the position, but NOT the altitude. Please also provide access to the altitude value.

Fourth suggestion : The less easy to implement, I guess, but I nevertheless explain, because it would be very useful.
On smartphones, there are often .hgt files providing elevation data per lat/lon position. They are there to be used in apps like OruxMaps, LocusMaps, OsmAnd, etc..
It would be great to be able, inside XnView, to take advantage of these .hgt files to be able to force the altitude parameter in the GPS exif data, based on GPS Latitude and longitude data.
This would be very useful, because most of Photo applications which store GPS data in the images taken, store as altitude the "raw" value provided by the GPS, and not the value "Geoïde corrected", ie. with an error of +/- 50 meters in south east of France.
I have developed a script on Windows to automate the correction, but it would be nice to have the same directly in the XnView app.
