Changing thumb size crashes XnView

Post by pdavit »

I'm using XnView v1.82 on WinXP Pro SP2 Eng.

My XnView crashes if while I have some thumbnails displayed I go to options -> thumbnails -> appearance and I user-define some custom size for the thumbnails.

Problem not present if I'm not displaying any thumbnails while configuring them.

I can't reproduce it, do you have enabled the cache?

Ok I can't reproduce your crash but I did find another type instead!

1. Open XnView in Browser mode
2. Go to Folder with lots of images in Thumbnails & Labels mode
3. Set Thumbnails to 128x96
4. Open Options -> Browser -> Thumbnail -> Appearance
5. Enable "Use Huge Thumbnails"
6. Choose any larger size than 128x96 -> Click OK

7. Now set XnView back to 128x96 and Crash!!!!

Yes I have cashing enabled.

The bug is not always reproducible. It looks like I have to stress XnView a little in order to get it.

What may help you is that after changing thumb size XnView starts redisplaying the thumbs, I get some
and then it crashes. This process looks like it's more of a read problem other than a display problem.

Could you try with a clean cache? And without cache?

Ok, I disabled the cache and that fixed it.

This is a screenshot at the time of the crash: http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/6011/sst21nl.jpg

Disabling cashing has solved the problem here as well!

If you have only some files, do you have the problem?

The folder on the screenshot I have supplied here contains 24 images with a total size of 2.5Mb that cannot be a real challeng for XnView. Average image size is 100kb and 24 is not that many.

The source of the problem is elsewhere in my opinion. Having said that it's quite impossible for me to reproduce the bug with a very small number of files.

Very strange, do you have tested by removing cache folder before starting xnview?

Cache and tests---

Post by Clo »

—> pdavit

:) Hello Panos !

- There is a sub-directory so named <cache> in the programme-root…
Did you (re)move it before testing ?

- Here under XP-Pro according to your steps, I don't get any crash, the cache has his folder and is set, not cleared at all before testing, I didn't use a new INI, and I changed the size while a board of thumb-nails was displayed, no problem…

 Friendly,
Claude
