Pixels Cropping Top & Bottom?

Hi, When cropping the top or bottom of an image the pixel coordinate in the status bar changes even for the same place on the image. This doesn't happen when cropping the sides. Maybe I am missing something here?

What I have been doing as a workaround is cropping the sides, then rotating the image a 1/4 turn, cropping the top & bottom which are now the 'sides', then rotating the image 3/4 turns till it's upright again. Works but tedious when doing this over & over for images to use in animated gifs.
