frame numbers display for video

Post by Drachir »

Xnview can show video. Xnview can cut film stripes from x frame number to y frame number. Yet there is no display of what frame number the video is at, is there? Does the film have to be specially indexed to display this info? Is ther a way to display the frame number? Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

You would like to see the frame number when you play a video?

Re: reason for frame numbers

Hi Pierre. Yes, a frame number display option for the player would be helpful when extracting frames as a film strip for editing. Clock time is to arbitrary when extracting film frames, because 1 second usually holds anywhere from 8 to 30 or more frames. Of course, there is also the interlacing issue, but I believe I saw an option to deinterlace film. The main reason for including this option is, that in the Tools menu -when watching video- there is the "Extract Movie Frames..." dialog, which asks for the sequence you would like to extract in frame numbers. To the right there is a display of the total number of frames, so they are being counted. It just seems to make sense to have a frame display counter for the player, if the extraction dialog asks for frame numbers. I'm not sure if Xnview was meant to be a film editor but it certainly has the possibility. Do you think this would be possible?
