Like many others here I also used acdsee for many years and it was good to me. When the loading times became too long I stuck with it because of the features. Eventually I got tired of all the waiting so I started a search for a better alternative. Acdsee classic wouldn't associate with files properly in XP. I tried a lot of other popular graphics viewers but none matched what I was used to. I had been spoilt.

The other day I read about other acdsee users switching to XnView. I installed it and before the days end acdsee was uninstalled.

Excellent job guys. I can now enjoy picture viewing the way it was meant to be :)

I used to love XnView and recommended it over Irfanview whenever the subject came up. But I think XnView is too bloated now. It tries to be too many things. Instead of adding file types most wouldn't see in their lifetime, straighten out the UI. Get back to the basics!

Thank you for your open word - even if these might be not too popular, here. ;-)

I've assisted Pierre in some areas, especially GUI design, so sure enough I'd like to know what people think about XnView and take this serious.

From my point of view, XnView has evolved smoothly and the user interface hasn't changed much. It's true, the menu was restructured and there's a lot more functionality available than in older versions (e.g. 1.14), now.
So if you want to straighten the UI out, you basically have to get rid of menu items which only can be achieved by reducing functionality. Or what do you mean?

In the times that you recommended XnView, which version have you been using and in your mind? Which areas do you think are bloated and superfluous? Which areas have become worse?

Greetings,

Helmut

if i understood what "a former fan" says i think he suggests to focus development on improving usability of UI rather than simplify it, about quality, speed and fileformat support xnview is already the leader! and we cannot ask more about this point! :)

about UI improvements it's up to us (users) to give smart feedbacks...one example "the single esc key" (thanks for this!), the cut and copy (already to fix) etc.

First thank you for your feedback and positive opinion. But i'm not sure whether your interpretation is right, I still would like to get some direct feedback from "a former fan". Perhaps he/she can really give some helpful hints.

Partly right. It's very important that users give feedback and submit ideas, but the author still must have the big picture and decide the direction a software goes. Otherwise you'll end up with a very universal tool with all the functionality in it, but which has the look and feel of 'patch work' and no one can use it.
