Existing IPTC-Data is overwritten

Hi. When i write IPTC-info into several files at one time, all IPTC-info that was there before is lost. Right? There is no way to ADD IPTC instead of REPLACING IPTC, right? I feel only when i edit one single file i have a chance to keep existing IPTC data within the file? Thanks!

I am not sure if it is easy to ADD a new description to an existing one, when you edit more than one file. In Photoshop CS, if you select ADD instead of REPLACE, still the old description is removed and only the new one remains (while old keywords stay there).
