crash- view while generating thumbnails

Post by dcakovan »

It seems to crash only when I enter a zip file and double click the file while it is still generating thumbnails. It does not crash with a directory that contains images.

edit:
It would be nice to cache these thumbs for the archive so we do not have to wait to regenerate thumbs every time you enter a zip file...after viewing an image.
Right now it seames to kick you out from a zip file or a category to a folder that contains that image when viewing.

I am not sure if the size matters. Zip file is about 400MB with images in size of about 500KB to a 1MB. No directories... I created my own zip as a test with 500 images (30MB) and it still crashed.
Just to note again that it will not crash when it is finished generating thumbnails.

I can't confirm the original crash, but a very strange behaviour in 1.9b2. 300MB ZIP, opening it in browser, while XnView creates thumbs I double click a file without extracted thumb, provoking message "error opening the file |C - documents and settings - local - temp - blah.jpg|" (can't type in path here, forum cuts it, | is angle bracket and - backslash) with option to press OK. Now the XnView instance just continues to read the thumbs, does not change to view mode, but one (or two) new instance of XnView starts up with default view (just like startes from windows start menu). Weird.

I've tried with a 1Go ZIP file, and can't reproduce the problem :-(

I was just able to reproduce the bug but only once and I grabbed a screenshot of it.
Still looking for clues...

This RAR solid archive was only 101Kb in size too.

Image

Update:
I can reproduce it more often now with these steps:

- Open XnView in Browser mode
- Double-click on "Yahoo Animated Emoticons.rar" and quickly while thumbnails are generating double-click on the first image to open it in View mode
- Crash!

I don't think this works if XnView already has the folder the archive is in already cached, so you will have to delete the cache alot to test this.

Update 2:
No, the View mode has nothing to do with it.
I can reproduce some of the time with displaying just the first image in the preview pane.

Update 3:
Turned "Thumbnail Cache" off and was still able to reproduce it.

Nope still crashes with the newest Unrar.dll.

The trick is to get XnView to display as many pictures in the preview pane as possible before it finishes generating the thumbnails.

:) Hi Chris !

• I've downloaded your RAR, it shows its contents OK in the browser here.

- BUT : Using •• I cannot come back to the folder, the thumb nails remain sticked there.
- I ought close the browser…
- Indeed the Back button on the small tool-bar works, but I wonder to know why •• doesn't.
- Same behaviour with all archives in the browser. But sometimes, I get the two buttons greyed
(especially with *.SQX archives, hard to catch, it's quite random…)

Yes, that's a known bug of Beta 4 and I've reported it somewhere in the 1.90 mess.
