For some reason I can not fix on my end, XnView MP 1.8.2 does not auto-adjust the window size depending on image size.
Please see images attached - it used to cut away the empty space around smaller images, now it doesn't.

XnView rocks because it seems to be the only image viewer that can and will actually adapt its size to the size of an image (the "Fit to Image" with "Force XnVie to Fit Image" settings). :)
