1.9.0 "Find similar files" can't distinguish down-converted copies of HEIC file
"FInd similar files" is unreliable when examining photos converted from HEIC to JPG
Effect: duplicate photos are not identified.
To reproduce:
1. Open this directory in XnView MP.
2. Click on "Tools" - "Find similar files".
3. Select "Similar image content".
4. Set similarity to 60%.
5. Click "OK ...

Re: 1.8.7 Errors in "Find similar files"
The identification of duplicates is corrected in 1.9.0. However, the misidentification of non-duplicates remains.
Specifically, with a threshold of 60%, XnViewMP 1.9.0 identifies P1000017.JPG and 2009-10 Mediterranean Cruise 908.jpg as a 46% match, but only with the option "between folders only", as ...

Recommended settings to convert HEIC to JPG
Based on https://giannirosato.com/blog/post/jpegli/ it seems that JPEGLI is the best encoder to use, but what about the other settings, e.g. DCT Method, Subsampling, etc.
Any advice is welcome!

Please allow "Find similar" to be interrupted
I find XnView's "Find similar" function very useful, but I sometimes give it too big of an assignment. If I change my mind and try to Cancel the operation, XnView MP generally doesn't respond to the Cancel button. This often leaves me no other choice but to force a hard shutdown, by holding down the ...

Re: Please make IPTC "Title" more accessible
Sorry, my bad. In XnView MP 1.8.2 it's at the top of the first ("Caption") tab of the "Edit IPTC" dialog (Ctrl-I in "View" mode). The field name is "Document title".

I found it at the bottom of the first pane. YMMV.

Re: Please show metadata of similar files
@Gerald,
I am using all 3 of these options, and would settle for any of them in the "Find similar files" results view.
However, what I had in mind when I made the suggestion was the "Labels" from the "Thumbnail" settings.
This is also what I most often refer to.

Please show metadata of similar files
I take way too many pictures and make too many backups. XnView MP's "similar files" feature saves me a lot of time cleaning out similar and duplicate pictures. However, there is one feature I am missing. The results view helps me to compare the pictures, but I often have copies of the same picture ...

Re: Please provide crop aspect ratios <1.0
@user0
Thanks, that created the file.
@Kadet,
That doesn't work for me (in XnViewMP 1.80). I see no change in the drop-down menu for aspect ratios when a selection is active in the picture and no "specific ratio". There is an entry "fixed ratio", but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Re: Please provide crop aspect ratios <1.0
As it turns out, XnView MP handles this automatically in most cases. If I select 16:9 and attempt to make a crop selection on a portrait mode picture, XnView MP automatically uses 9:16 instead. However, there are still cases where this does not suffice, e.g. when I want to crop a portrait mode ...

Re: Please provide crop aspect ratios <1.0
Thanks, but I don't find any such file. Where is it located?
P.S. A search my installation directory, c:\Program Files\XnViewMP, finds no XML files at all.
Searching the entire PC for cropsize.xml or CropSize.xml comes up empty.
