I can open the pictures with:
* Windows Picture and Fax Viewer
* Paint
* Micrografx Picture Publisher
* Internet Explorer
* Microsoft Office picture Manager
It is only xNview that fails to display the pictures.
Of course, all bar one of these programs come from the Microsoft stable.

JPG files that are not recognised by XnView
I have a number of jpg files that xNview browser only displays as strings of text. Windows Picture and Fax viewer displays them as pictures.
I can't see a way to attach an example to this post.

I didn't find any instructions in the zip file for installing XnView.
What I did worked, so I'm recording it here.
However, it may only have worked because I had previously installed an earlier version with the Installer. That may have set some registry entries.

I am using XnView 1.92 on Windows 2000 SP4.
1. When I double click a file associated with XnView, the program:
(a) opens a full screen window. (In Tools>Options I have "Mode when starting with a file" set as "Normal".)
(b) shows a sequence of views of every file in the directory, with about 5-10 ...
