PAM (portable arbitrary map)
PAM is a close relative of PNM (portable any map) supported by FFmpeg (example). Like the binary PNM formats (P4..P6, the ASCII versions are P1..P3) it consists of a small text header followed by a binary bitmap. Arguably parsing a PAM header (P7 format) is simpler than parsing a PNM header.

Re: JPEG XR save options
Now I am not sure what selected option is actually active. I'm not sure what your input and output formats are. If JXR displayed as 24bits RGB is the input, and I try to save it as PGM (portable grey map), I get the colour mode box as in your screenshot with "4 grey colours" selected, and ...

Transparency at zoom levels greater than 100%
Apparently XnView 2.22 and some earlier versions cannot handle transparency at zoom levels > 100%. This could be a new bug or feature, or I haven't found the settings to fix it, or it never worked, but I didn't see it, because I only recently looked at pictures with semi-transparent (0 < alpha < 255 ...

Re: WebP support
what's the problem? In addition to what others wrote: There is now a lossless WebP variant. I'm still unsure about their lossy format, but the lossless codec can create smaller pictures than PNG, and that's mildly interesting. :o

Re: Sony "raw" format (ARW)
the correct dimensions are 5456x3632 in any other viewer
Tested with something claiming to be RAW Image Viewer (a simple GUI for dcraw 9.19) I get 5496*3656 for your ARW. XnView 2.20 agrees with these dimensions.

Re: JPEG v9.1 now supports 12-bit color and lossless compres
Hi, after a quick test I fear that XnView 2.20 doesn't grok the output of jpegtran -arithmetic . Check out the odd README in jpegsr9a.zip:

libpng
Hi, I'm unable to figure out which libpng is used in the various XnView tools. The bug tracker and forum threads mention 1.6x from 3..6. There was a vulnerability in 1.61 .. 1.67, maybe it is not yet fixed everywhere (I tried to put it directly into the bug tracker, but apparently the mutual spam ...

XnView 2.20 upgrade for Windows 2000
XnView 2.20 does not more officially support Windows 2000 and older Windows platforms. For others applications that typically means that some parts of newer versions might still work. For English/French/German installations apparently only five files were modified in version 2.20:
- XnView.exe ...
- XnView.exe ...
