Yep ,
this one works, even on the 64-bit system.
Thanks, that filter has a lot of parameters,
so it needs some experimenting .

Re: Free unsharp mask plugin?
Thanks XnTriq ,
but still I am out of luck today:
the plugin crashes on me immediately, (I use windows -7 , 64 bit);
I tested them quickly on an XP - 32 bit system, and there they seem to work OK.

Thanks indeed, installing the 64 bit extension did the trick,
obviously when I come to think of it .

Re: Free unsharp mask plugin?
seems to be very interesting,
unfortunately some of the (eg AstroUnsharp.8bf) are not available,
the link is dead to them,
do you know of any other links towards these plugins ??

automatic deskew improvements
I tried the automatic deskew option as implemented in the latest 1.96.5 version of XnView.
It works, but there are 2 or 3 things that might need improvement:
When one "automatically " deskews a scanned image the deskewing only works for about 5 degrees,
that is it rotates the image over about 5 ...

Re: very slow PNG writes
you are right, it had to do with the compression-factor,
in XnVIEW the compression can be set from 0 to 9;
I did a quick check with these 10 settings:
compr.; time (s) ; size (MB)
0 ; 38 ; 89.9
1 ; 19 ; 31.8
2 ; 20 ; 30.8
3 ; 22 ; 29.5

very slow PNG writes
Recently I am using large 8-bit PNG files ,
crooping them and then saving back to PNG format.
The files are about 25 MB large on disk (unpacked 88 MB) .
Loading the PNG takes some 10 sec. , but when I save this file it takes 4 1/2 minute, with full (single core) processor load of a core-2 duo ...

Re: zoom steps by a ratio of qrt(2)=1,414213562
Yes, that is the big advantage, in the current version the zooming steps aren't allways "smooth" .Plus, by this way (a relative zoom step behavior), the zoom behavior will also be more smooth.
By the way: I wasn't aware of the "*" shortcut, might be handy .

Re: zoom steps by a ratio of qrt(2)=1,414213562
Good idea, I allready posted a request some time ago, to zoom in relative steps, with selectable step-size,
eg. 1.41 x ;
in your case I think it would be better to normalize the zooming around 100% ,
the zoom-table would then be:

Re: No indication that file is locked
I agree to this,
my (default) option would be "4" ,
but using the INI file everybody can tune the behaviour to its own needs !!

Re: No indication that file is locked
Troken is talking prior of images copied from a CD which inherit the Read Only attribute, that IMHO is rather stupid !
Sure, but if XnView would just reset the read-only flag without asking,
it would do so also if I intentionally set the Read-only flag on images originating from my harddisk ...

Re: No indication that file is locked
I don't think that XnView should set the read-only attribute back to R/W,
I sometimes use the Read-Only attribute to avoid accidental manipulations to an image, when I want XnView just to be a viewer.
XnView should however warn the user that the file is Read-only, preferably immediately if the ...

Wallpaper gone after restart in Windows-7
I found a small bug for XnVIEW 1.96.2 running on Windows-7 / 64 bit.
If I choose an image to be set as wallpaper it seems to work OK ,
but after a restart of the computer the wallpaper is gone.
Can someone confirm this behaviour ?

Re: Addons/Plugins/...
confirmed on my XP-SP3 system , XnView 196.2 with imageshack 1.04 .
I never used it before, so I don't know what user-interface it is supposed to give,
all I got is a confirmation box asking me whter it is OK to upload the image to "imageshack" ,
then nothing seems to happen ..
