Re: Browser crashing in 1.98.2
MKV format support isn't native, so it's a problem of an external codec.ShinzuiUindo wrote:After some testing by removing files I saw that MKV files cause the crash. Though XnView can open MKV files.

Re: Width of PNG in XnView and Word

The width is displayed with "15.00 cm", but the real size on screen is "12.50" (measured with a ruler)
The physical size refers, if ever, to printing, not the screen ;-) But I don't get any physical size when ...

Re: Free JPG reduction service
My tests show about 6:1 file size reduction with no discernible differences between the before and after JPGs.
I'm skeptical and it needs registration to test :-(
Please optimize this one: everdone.jpg and provide the result.

NC585 -info BLAHPNG.PNG OK
NC585 -info BLAHPNG.XXX OK
NC585 -info BLAHJP2.XXX (plugin) OK (but see other thread about decoding)
NC585 -info BLAHWEBP.WEP OK
NC585 -info BLAHWEBP.XXX (plugin) "Don't know how to read this picture"

[1.98b3] JPEG-2000 returns empty (black) frames
Both XN and NC, on JPEG-2000 it pretends success (and reports correct info), but the output is just a black frame. http://jafile.com/uploads/dos386/wolfs.jp2

Compression info (new WebP, partially old problem)
-info
1. For WebP (plugin), the output is "Uncompressed", this is definitely wrong, should be "Lossy: VP8/WebP"
2. For PNG, it says "ZIP", this is not very good, better answer: "Lossless: Deflate+Filters"
3. For JPEG-2000 (plugin), it says "Wavelet" ... correct, but would be nice to know ...

"XNview legacy" isn't discontinued yet
Some ideas:
- Keep it clean & simple
- Javascript optional, stay usable without
- For possible videos, use HTML5 + free codecs only (not Flash)

Re: [sugg/BUG?] NCONVERT plugin management: make it fool pro
Nconvert use Plugin folder, not for you??
I had it in my tests ... but allowing to place plugins into same directory too would be an improvement. :-)
With which command?
I don't have it for sure (yet) ... I see the strings only ("Plugins\webp.dll" and "msvcr90.dll") ... so I suspect ...

[sugg/BUG?] NCONVERT plugin management: make it fool proof
(as started in messy thread: http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=21685 )
Problem: plugin management in NC is not very user friendly and fool-proof (+ possibly even buggy).
- Plugins are not accepted in same directory as NC
- It says "Error: Don't know how to read this picture" ... but ...
