Re: Need help
When I crop IMG_0153.JPG in edit mode I have no rotation... In fullscreen you can enable the crop tool using Shift+X. But if you have a large book scanning project, you should possibly also look at a utility called ScanTailor, specifically designed for processing large numbers of book scans and high...

Re: Basic understanding of "JPEG Quality"?
The idea behind it is that I use "nconvert.exe" to add text in multiple lines. Because (at the moment) there is no multiline-feature, I have to repeat "write line - save jpg - write line - save ..." And I want to avoid the loss of quality. I was going to return to Peter2's problem, and to report th...

Re: Basic understanding of "JPEG Quality"?
So, if an image were to be opened and then resaved repeatedly, what would you expect the final 'quality' to be if a file with initial Q = 80 is resaved ten times: 0.80 * 0.80 * 0.80 * 0.80 * 0.80 * 0.80 * 0.80 * 0.80 * 0.80 * 0.80 * 0.80 = 0.107 ? I have now performed a test to find the answer: I s...

Re: Basic understanding of "JPEG Quality"?
And if Use estimated original quality (when possible) is used? It depends. Let's say your JPEG that was previously saved without chroma subsampling i.e. 1×1,1×1,1×1 (best quality) . Re-saving/re-encoding this JPEG with a SubSampling factor of 2×2,1×1,1×1 (default) inevitably introduces additional l...

Re: Basic understanding of "JPEG Quality"?
And if Use estimated original quality (when possible) is used? 0.85*0.85*0.85 = 61%? Or close to no additional loss? Re: Transparent area missing after 8 bit converting
I have booted into Windows
and tested in another popular freeware software, and now filed a bug report under the XnView MP heading.
Very surprising if there is really what would presumably be a long standing bug in xnview software
.

Transparent PNG modified when 'Change color depth' selected
When the attached file elite.png with transparency is opened, and Image > Change color depth... . selected, and when the 32 bit option is selected, part of the transparent area becomes black. The same file opened in another popular software retains full transparency when the colour depth is reduced ...

Re: Transparent area missing after 8 bit converting
Are you able to test the same image in another software, in case the issue is very unexpectedly in XnView software, I can't easily do that quickly?

Re: Transparent area missing after 8 bit converting
I have several .png images i want to resize to width 200 and color convert to 8 bit 256 colors - this to reduce file size for each image down to around 80 kB. If you do not save the file at 32-bits you will inevitably lose transparency... I don't know whether you can reduce the file size to around ...

Re: Transparent area missing after 8 bit converting
On the 'Change color depth' action do you have '32 bits' selected?
The output image is 24 bits rather than 32 bits, which should preserve the transparency in the original file.
