Still missing something:
$ xnview
/opt/XnView/XnView: error while loading shared libraries: libva.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Like I said, use ldd to figure out the dependencies:
djcj ~ $ cd /opt/XnView/
djcj /opt/XnView $ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$PWD/lib ...

v0.91 Debian package doesn't work
There's a missing library:
/opt/XnView/XnView: error while loading shared libraries: libQtAVWidgets.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Hint: you can use the command ldd to check how the dependencies are resolved before creating a package.

Re: Solution: XnView as a default image viewer in Windows 10

You can do it with "Set defaults by app" but it takes more time.

Valve Texture Format (vtf) support
The Valve Texture Format (VTF) is the proprietary texture format used by the Source engine. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Texture_Format
It would be convenient if XnViewMP could handle this too, so I don't need to view .vtf files in VTFEdit.
You could use the LGPL licensed VTFLib ...

As an alternative to .deb and .rpm packages, could you also provide AppImages?

Ubuntu: Ilmlmf plugin requires libilm6
The Ilmlmf plugin requires libilm6 which is not available on newer Linux distributions. Recent Ubuntu versions for example use libilm12: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=libilmbase&searchon=names

v0.81 not in "old versions"
Version 0.81 isn't yet available from http://download.xnview.com/old_versions/?C=N;O=D except for the Mac packages which seem to be suspiciously small though.
